Maybe I just worked for jerks. A burn the night before might have gotten me out of a normal day at the office, but if I canceled a meeting with a big customer over it (the exam equivalent), I would have gotten my ass kicked.
Taking the distant view, it is horrible America has gotten to where no one employees enough people to cover that kind of stuff. This shouldn't even be a problem. But we build companies like cheap shit sold at the dollar store. There is no buffer zone.
