That article was the first time I'd seen IGN Retro attempt something as broad as a genre history. That's a tough thing to do, you really have to strike a balance between being complete and not boring the shit out of everyone by mentioning every little game.
I know. It's a massive task and you can't include everything. It's not really a complaint but a game I think is worth mentioning in that context.
Yeah, no doubt, just saying I don't envy Rus being put in that position. Those IGN Presents articles are topics decided by someone high on the food chain and handed down to us freelancers, so it's not even like we get to choose something we know. I'm doing the one we have next month, and it's going to a beast.
I figured the IGN Presents ones were like that given that they tend to be more mainstream topics. Can you say what the topic is or do they want you to keep it secret until it's ready?
I don't know, but it's Zelda, don't get me in trouble.
Kind of a pain in the ass since it's huge and they're long games (and I haven't played a couple of them) but as far as availability of information, I suppose it's a lot easier than some of what I do.

I'm surprised they don't have a history article of that already.
Yeah, really. That's kind of the frustrating thing for me, that I probably won't be able to add anything new to that narrative. It's been covered so extensively already. At least when I'm talking about Wonder Boy or something I can kind of get into lesser known details and personalities that were missed in other articles.
I think many people here know how much I hate misconceptions about the 1983/1984 crash so I'm happy to see an article at IGN made to dispel some of the myths.
