Thread: My Dreamcast is in a coma

  1. Frown My Dreamcast is in a coma

After a little over 8 years it seems my DC just gave up. In the middle of playing a game the screen turned black and never went back. The music continued to play though.

Now it powers on just fine, but won't read any games. None of the discs are spinning at all. I tried this with no luck. The laser seems to be trying to read games.

Does anyone have experience with something like this? I'm wondering if it may just be the disc motor. If that's it I can get one on ebay easily. Anything else I should try? It's modded so I'd rather fix it if I can than have to replace it.

  2. I'd say your best bet is getting a new motor, if not, a whole new laser/motor drive. If it powers on, but the disc isn't moving, it's most likely a motor problem.

  3. A simple effective solution, this noob is on his/her way to fitting in.

    Kudos

  5. I either give 100% or 0, it's the way it is man.

  6. Sounds like it's time to take the old DC out back and shoot it.

You can get a replacement a lot cheaper than fixing it, I would think.

Well a disc motor is dirt cheap, and like I said the thing is modded so I'd like to at least try and fix it. If that's not the problem though I'm screwed.
