Thread: Help me pick a Samsung out for my parents.

  1. Help me pick a Samsung out for my parents.

I was at Sears today and they have two Samsungs. The LNT4061F for $1299 and the LNT4071F for $1799. The 71 has a 120hz display and a much better contrast ratio while the 61F had around a 65hz display and half the contrast ratio (i believe). Is it really worth the extra $500 for the 120hz? Anybody familiar with either of these two?

  2. I'm in the market for the 4671F model and having been to some stores to compare, the 120hz and better contrast ratio really do make a difference, at least to me.

The 120hz processing does introduce a few artifacts, though, and in earlier units of the model have the "triple ball" effect in sports.

But it does eliminate film jutter and the picture is just extremely crisp all around. If your parents aren't the type of people, you think, that would notice these details then the lower end model is just fine.

  3. Every time i go into Best Buy I drool over the 71 series. Get the 4071 online from Fry's for $1469 with free delivery. I fear i will own one some day soon but i really can't afford it right now.

I will own one someday soon but fear is not an accurate description. I have newspaper laid out all over my floor as I cannot predict where I may shit myself when it is first delivered.

  5. here is a 10% BB coupon. They have it for $1850 in store, so $1665 after coupon for the 4071.

  6. $1,598.88 at Amazon with free shipping and no tax. I got my 46" there and extremely happy with everything. Just make sure you buy from Amazon and not one of their seller companies.

Also you can apply for their credit card, which offers points rewards for any purchases, and with that purchase of this tv should bring about $50 or more in certificates. Plus, if you do get it, keep watching price for next 30 days and contact them if price drops more for more refunds. I got $150 off my tv that way.

  7. And if you ARE gonna buy from Amazon, do Nick a favor and buy it through his store.

  8. oh wow, awesome lookout there Despair. i may just have SEARS/Bestbuy pricematch (hopefully) so a return if defective would be easier. Stormy, i saw a more expensive price at Fry's than what you listed.

also, say i had BB price match Amazon. would i be able to use the 10% off coupon or doesn't BB usually give an additional % off when they pricematch?

  9. Oops. I had the model numbers mixed up. It's the 4069 that's $1469 at Fry's. The 69 and 71 series are the same tv, but 69 is matte screen and 71 is glossy screen.

  10. If you want to go bigger, the 52" 5265 is $2K at Fry's/Outpost.

If you want a little bigger with 120hz, the 4669 at Amazon is less than $2K (but it's a couple weeks backordered):

If your parents are like most, though, and are only going to watch TV and maybe Blu-Ray down the line, you could probably do better with a Panny 720p plasma.

Also, BB isn't gonna PM Amazon.

Gotta disagree with you here. Amazon returns/replacements are completely painless...I would 100% rather call up Amazon and arrange a replacement than schlep a busted TV back to a mall to deal with idiot CSRs. Unless you have coupons (that usually exclude TVs) *and* a pricematch, you're usually wasting a lot of money when you buy a large ticket item like this B&M instead of online.
