I don't get it? I never said role players aren't necessary to win EITHER. I said a star or two IS necessary.
And Sather's team are collectively ~40+ games over .500 in the past three seasons and haven't done worse in the playoffs than your "genius" GM. Drop it already. Sather has turned it around.
I think Gill is a role-playing gritty player and I think Pittsburgh upgraded themselves with their rent-a-player and Dupois. They'll be tough to defend against and tough to beat.
