Jagr, who has 9 points in his last 3 games, should've been traded today? You really are a Devils fan, because only someone who hates the Rangers could've come up with that.

Jagr is a free agent this summer. So, salary will be dumped if he doesn't want to sign with the NYR. Jagr also historically gets hot the last two months of the season. No matter what the Rangers would've gotten to trade him as a rental, it wouldn't equal what he will produce over now and the playoffs.

And, yes, he has two Cups under his belt, too. They count.

The Rangers have zero chance of winning the Cup, so why not get something for Jagr before he becomes a UFA? I'm actually elated that he wasn't traded. Now they will either get nothing for him or overpay to keep him. That's a win/win for me.

You missed the whole point, as usual. Your list of young players was built on high draft picks from being awful. And it's still not all that impressive, especially on the offensive side, necessitating overpaying for free agents.

Really? Lundqvist isn't impressive? Who has the last goalie to win 30 in each of his first three seasons? Dubinski has been playing well. Dawes has 12 goals. Callahan has found himself, and Staal is considered as one of the strongest rookie D's in the league. That's pretty good.

Who are your young players again?

Considering how much Philly payed Briere, and the points that he's gotten, Gomez and Drury look like a bargain now. ($10 million for Briere for less points than Gomez)

Then why are you using regular season stats to support your young players' quality? By your playoff standard they haven't done a damn thing. I'll take Parise's 8 playoff goals and +4 in 20 playoff games over Lundqvist's 6-7, 2.58, .905 playoff stats, and no other young Ranger has done a damn thing in "a measure of anything" by your definition.

per Tom Gulitti, Devils did try to move a defenseman:

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello finds himself stuck with nine defensemen after acquiring Bryce Salvador from St. Louis this morning for enforcer Cam Janssen. Lamoriello admitted on a conference call that he tried to move one of his defenseman after competing the deal for Salvador this morning, "and we weren't able to do that."

He said the team will carry nine defensemen for now. "We'll make some decisions on whether we do or we don't (keep nine)," he said. "At this point, we have nine and that's the decision."

His problem was that the teams that needed D most (Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Philly) can fuck themselves. Defensive depth is never a bad thing, but nine is a bit excessive.
