Thread: Games of the Year

  1. Games of the Year

There was a pretty fun conversation going on in one of the IRC channels I'm on about what was your game of the year for each year that you've been gaming. It was tough to not only remember what I had played, but what year it had come out. Obviously it gets easier in the more recent years.

    A couple rules...
    • Your list can only contain games you've actually played.
    • No runner-ups or any of that crap. They're going to be long enough lists as is.
    • This isn't a list of THE best game of that year, just what you enjoyed/played most of the games that year.
    So here's mine:

1985 - Super Mario Bros (NES)
    1986 - Metroid (NES)
1987 - The Legend of Zelda (NES)
    1988 - Double Dragon (ARC)
    1989 - SimCity (PC)
    1990 - Civilization (PC)
    1991 - Street Fighter 2 (ARC)
1992 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
    1993 - Doom (PC)
1994 - X-Com: UFO Defense (PC) I know technically it was '93, but it was 12/31/93, so suck it.
1995 - Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness (PC)
    1996 - Sniper/Subspace/Continuum (PC)
1997 - Age of Empires (PC)
    1998 - Starcraft (PC)
    1999 - Soul Calibur (DC)
2000 - Chu Chu Rocket (DC)
    2001 - Halo (XBOX)
    2002 - Warcraft 3 (PC)
2003 - The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GC)
    2004 - Half-Life 2 (PC)
    2005 - Battlefield 2 (PC)
2006 - Company of Heroes (PC)
    2007 - Crackdown (XBOX 360)

  2. I can barely remember what I ate for dinner 2 nights ago, let alone the release dates for some older games.

But I guess Chrono Trigger consecutively until Garou:MOTW came out, and then when Street Fighter III came out until 2007 when Mario Galaxy usurped the throne.

  3. I don't want to think about this shit. You guys have fun.

    Crackdown? Seriously?

There are no rules, only consequences.

  5. I played it more than any other game from last year. Orange Box, ETQW, and Stalker were all up there, though.

I thought Little Big Adventure came out in 1994, not 1995.

  10. Dammit, you're right. Neverhood, then.
