Thread: TNL Style Thread

  1. Back when I had money, I got some $200 jeans. Not because they were $200, I would have rather they been $2, it Just so happens the ones I wanted were $200. They are still awesome, I enjoy wearing them, the outfits I can put together with them, and how I see myself in the mirror with them. 0 regrets.

  2. I don't buy dirt cheap clothes very often, since most of it is clearly garbage, but the few times I have, I was surprised at how long they lasted.
I have a pair of $10 boots that have outlasted all of my other footwear, and the $3 pair of jeans I bought a few summers ago survived almost three years of being worn at least twice a week.
The one time I spent over $100 each on pants, neither pair lasted more than six months.

Lower priced clothes often imitate what high-end fashion houses try to do which is why you'll get your Targets hiring well-known designers to make fashionable clothes that hit the streets 2-3 years ago. That said, cheaper clothes obviously go with cheaper material since they're selling it at a much lower price. They also don't have the wide array of options that higher-priced brands offer because they don't want to spend the money for skinny boot-cut jeans, slim straight-cut jeans, etc. They rather have different colors than different styles because it's less time consuming. I can guarantee you I can buy a shirt from Tom Ford that will last me maybe 5-10 years longer than the one I buy at H&M because it's made with better care and more expensive material even if it is all cotton.
I really can't quote this enough. The difference between Target jeans and 'designer' jeans is IMMENSE. The patterns and materials that lower end clothing companies use are vastly inferior to brands that cost more. I mean, I love Levi's but unfortunately in the last few years the quality of Levi's (women's jeans mostly, seems the men's jeans are still decent) has TANKED because of them being carried in lower end retailers like Sears and JC Penney. If you get a pair of $100+ jeans, chances are you're going to be able to tell the difference in style, cut, and often dye. the cheaper retailers will often use awful black or blue dyes that literally run over anything.

I used to swear by Cheap Mondays (moderately priced hipster jeans brand) but their quality has also suffered a bit in the last few years. So far I haven't found a replacement I'm happy with - skin tight black denim for short chicks seems ridiculously hard to find except in really low end retailers like Forever21, and the quality is garbage.
