Thread: Official NWA:TNA Discussion Thread

  1. They tried to get Joey Styles (as did WWE), but he makes a lot of money doing like, real estate or something, so he declined.

Nick, I'm sorry, I thought you were trying to say that you think Essa Rios couldn't possibly be a cool wrestler because you thought he didn't look cool in an N64 game. And, if that's how you felt, it would be foolish. A simple misunderstanding.

  2. Hey Korly, since you seem to keep up with the latest wrestling news, I gots a question ta axe ya. Is there any chance of Goldberg signing with these people? I heard Warner finally cut him loose, and I reeeeeeeeally hope he doesn't end up with MacMahon... WWE needs competition, badly...

Well, Dave Scherer just posted this in his story about the return of Vince Russo to WWE "On the prospective talent front it's interesting to note that Bill Goldberg pretty much detests Russo, so it would be hard to see him coming in now."

So, I guess it's possible that Goldberg could come to NWA:TNA, BUT another person that he legitimately despises is Scott Hall. We'll see what happens, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a Goldberg return anytime soon.

Well I hope they do well but with no tv exposure it's not gonna be easy. The WWA isn't active anymore If I'm not mistaken and many of their wrestlers are on the NWA roster.

What they need is a free agent maybe Macho Man, Scott Steiner to help give the promotion a push.

I don't mean this as anything but an honest question, but do you really think that Scott Steiner is a bigger star than Scott Hall? They already have Scott Hall, who I see as the biggest star there.

As far as TV promotion goes...
NWA-TNA GETS LOCAL TELEVISION IN NASHVILLE

by Larry Goodman Updated: 6/22/2002 9:04:15 AM

J Sports & Entertainment has reached an agreement with Bert Prentice's USA Wrestling to provide the company with local television for promotion of their weekly live NWA-TNA pay-per-view broadcasts from the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.

NWA/USA Wrestling will air in the Saturday morning 9am slot on UPN affiliate, WUXP, that was formerly occupied by Prentice's USA Wrestling. The Jarrett promotion will control the content, which will be just what the name implies, a mix of NWA and USA clips. Prentice will continue to produce the ninety minute show.

It appears that the arrival of the live NWA-TNA broadcasts to Nashville will also bring an end to the regular wrestling shows at the Nashville Fairgrounds, the last remaining venue from the era of regional territories that still featured weekly wrestling. Plans call for Prentice to scale back USA's appearances at the Fairgrounds to six shows per year. USA will continue to run spot shows in the Nashville area. USA also plans to run shows in Chattanooga, where the promotion started television on FOX affilate, WDSI 61, in a Saturday midnight timeslot.

NWA/USA Wrestling will also be available for internet viewing on America One, Sundays at 1am.

The agreement between Prentice and JSE also calls for Prentice to become the local promotions director for the Wednesday night PPV shows at the Municipal. USA plans to do 20 minutes of taping at Municipal prior to the start of the live PPV broadcasts, using talent that Jarrett is developing, along with their own wrestlers.

Of course, that means nothing to most of us, but it's a start. And really, anyone who wants to see this promotion succeed, it's your responsibility to get the word out. I think that this thread has done a pretty good job of making TNLers aware of NWA:TNA, but if anyone frequents other message boards, post there and tell 'em. Also, and more importantly, tell your friends! Get excited about it, and treat it like a big deal PPV. I make a point to have big groups of people over for all of this stuff, and the day before the first NWA:TNA show, I called all my friends who have any slight interest in wrestling and told them about the big show, and told them they can see a bunch of old favorites like Ken Shamrock, Rick Steiner, Scott Hall, Konnan, and Tough Enough 1's Josh Matthews.

Let's hope this promotion becomes a viable competitor to WWE, for all wrestlings sake.

Korly- I agree Scott Hall is a big star but his long term value to the company remains to be seen. I read that one of his NWA matches he preformed poorly but I dunno why, or if that report is accurate. If the WWE sees the NWA as a viable threat I'm sure they will try to sign some of their top-guys to the WWE. It will be interesting to see the early buy-rate numbers.

  7. Halls only had 2 matches so far. There was the "Gauntlet for the Gold" match at the first PPV, and they taped the second PPV later that night, and one of the main events was Scott Hall against J-E-Double F J-A-Double R E-Double T. So, time will tell if that match was any good...

    I cared

And BTW, I just got my tickets in the mail today for the upcomming NWA TNA PPV on June 3 in Nashville, TN and man it is going to kick ass

    HARDCORE MIDGET WRESTLING!!! YESSSSSSS!!!!!

Edit: when does the NWA/USA wrestling show start airing?? I might have to start getting up early Saturday mornings to watch it.

  9. Well, I don't know when it begins, but if you live in the area that gets that show, just start setting your VCR, as it could be any week now. As soon as I see something else about it, I'll be sure to post.

In other news, this Wednesday night, there is gonna be some kind of tournament for the "X--Title" which should be awesome.

Early buyrate numbers for the debut of NWA-TNA: Total Nonstop Action are coming in higher than expected, according to a story posted on the NWATNA.com website.
The story says the show performed better than expected in some parts of the country, particularly in San Diego where the show aired at 5pm local time.

Other strong areas mentioned in the story were Atlanta, Detroit, and Tampa.
