Been playing on hardcore, the shotgun is a LOT less effective, the longshot feels more correct in its aiming (but still bugs out sometimes depending on what you're shooting at), and it's a lot harder to kneecap guys. And the "story" is way worse than the first. The best part about it are all the inside jokes about the first game. And you still can't run when you talk to control. And you still can't skip the in-game cutscenes, which are still placed right after checkpoints.
Wow. I disagree with that post 100%. The hammerburst was horrid in gears 1. Terrible. Theres some actual skill involved with it now - should I tap fire for faster shots, or should i hold down the fire button for less recoil? Plus it feels like it packs a nice punch with some nice sound to it. No idea where youre coming from there.
The story in gears 1 was an afterthought. They actually spent time on it in gears 2 - the collectables add another level as well. The new characters are fantastic and add alot to the gears universe. Maybe its been awhile since you played part 1? The 2 huge cutscenes in the beginning of gears 2 had more content and setup than the entire gears 1 game, not to mention they were brilliant in almost every way. In GoW1 you had to read the instruction manual to find out half the story because its never told in game. There is no comparison.
Im pretty sure you can skip cutscenes just like gears 1 - press x.
We just played through gear 1 insane mode last week leading up to the new game - and gears 1 in comparison is a buggy mess.
Worst offenders:
-not being able to enter cover unless you pause and unpause the game 5 times.
-no weapon switching unless you pause and unpause the game 5 times.
-Melee button being disabled simply when it felt like it.
-Jack the robot getting stuck and never being able to progress unless restarting the save point.
-Enemies that you had to kill to move on getting stuck in the ceiling.
Im not seeing anything that drastic in gears 2 so far.
Ive only gotten thru the first 2 acts in gear 2 and that right there is already better that the entire gears 1 campaign. Im taking my good ol time. It only needs to be more challenging, im hoping insane mode fixes that.
It took me awhile to get into multiplayer, but i like it for what it is. There is alot better offerings on 360 tho. Matchmaking has some serious problems right now. I like how they toned down the rolling shotgun retardation from gears1, but its still there to a degree. The most fun ive had is annex on River. Good times...
