I'm pretty sure Jaguar Doom came out damn near those and destroyed them both.
edit: Jaguar Doom was two years earlier (1994 vs 1996) and 10x better. Do they make something you can bathe in to get that SNES off?
I don't have a dog in the fight, I'm just saying compared to contemporaries it was a better game.

Countdown to the de facto end of the console generation: 5 exclusives
Most recent: Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (4/30)
Next up: The Last of Us (6/11)
Later: Puppeteer (9/10), Beyond: Two Souls (10/18), Rain (TBA), Until Dawn (TBA)
Interesting to read that the dudes who made Alien Resurrection (Argonaut Games) also made Red Dog on the Dreamcast. Two very different but very awesome games.
Argonaut was a pioneer of 3D gaming. SuperFX chip, BRender engine, Vortex, FX Fighter, StarFox, Stunt Race FX, etc. All games they were involved in.

I guess when you think about it, Red Dog = the buggy vehicles of Stunt Race FX + the shooting gameplay of Star Fox + the seamless 3D world of Alien Resurrection.
I think I actually played it first on PS1 too, but I'm not positive.

So DC Soul Reaver wasnt a rushed piece of crap port like the other Eidos (read: tomb raider) releases were?
The 1986 cab is awesome awesome. One of my favorite beat em ups. I have brought it up a lot on here. No idea why there is no xbla port yet.
