Thread: videocard help

  1. videocard help

So I have two machines that run World of Warcraft okay. But I want to upgrade the videocards so that the more populated areas run better.

I really don't keep up with pc hardware stuff anymore, so I figure some of you more tech savvy guys can find something much quicker and easier than I can.

I don't want anything to break the bank either (the cheapest solution please), just want to run the WoW at a minimum of 30fps would be great, right now the slower machine runs at about 20ish, and bottom outs in graphic heavy areas (like the burning crusade stuff).

Anyway, here are the specs and thanks a ton!

    pc one:
    2.64ghz, 1 gig of ram
    videocard - 256MB nvidia geforce fx 5600 8X AGP

    pc two:
dell dimension 4600, 1 gig of ram

  2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Force+7+series

Links to the GeForce 7 series 8x AGP cards. This is probably the best you'll get without paying 200+ for those ATI powercolor HD cards. These should definitely help boost WoW performance, my old Dell with 1gb RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro had it running silky smooth.

  3. I have a quick question to, I have

    http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130062

so if I were to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082

the two of them would be pretty godly combined right with SLI? Or do they need to be the same card for SLI (Or would the difference be so low that I could simply buy the budget card again and use two of them instead of getting the 8800GTS?)

  4. The cards need to be the same, yes. And yes, getting a 8800GTS would way outperform.

  5. That kind of really sucks, I was hoping you could combine an older card and a newer card and get a performance boost. Boo urns.

  6. Cards must be identical for SLI to work. Just buy an 8800GT (forget the GTS) and replace your existing card. It will blow what you have out of the water anyway.

    Nice.

Looks like I'll give this one a try:

Lots of reviews from people saying "zomg can run all WoW settings at max", which is good enough for me.

  8. Yeah, I went from a 7900gs (Which was fine) to an 8800gt and it was super rad.

    Do that.

Two gigs of ram are also pretty much a must for the larger cities like Shattrath.

    I'd say do that, too.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

  10. 2 gigs of ram is so cheap now, I remember it being like double the cost 4 years ago.

    I love that shit.
