Thread: Stick with the Store-bought Point Cards: A Cautionary Tale

  1. #31
lol I am actually am doing the same thing and am still doing the update.

  2. My account has a password, it's not that hard to set up.
Quick zephyrs blow, vexing daft Jim.

  3. Asking for the CVV number before points purchases would have prevented this pretty quickly. I wouldn't blame MS too much on this.

  4. Exactly. The CVV would help, but that still won't stop it a 100%. I had my identity stolen about 7 years back. The correction process was simple and quick. And that was back before there were commercials for it.

Mofo's need to check their damn bank accounts.

You'd have to call Sony and see what they can do about taking the card out of their system and halting charges before you can say they would have the same issue. MS couldn't (or wouldn't) remove the ability for them to use the card for at least 30 days.

  6. This person is an idiot for not cancelling his credit card when he knew his data was stolen. Of course MS isn't giving random people IP information. Once the card was cancelled MS would have made it a point to get that card off the server because they don't want to sell points they're not gonna get paid on.

Perfect? Hell no. Good? You better believe it.

Cancel the card or call the CC company and tell them your information is out there. Simple as that. Anyone blaming MS is going overboard on this. They don't have a perfect system for it, but it sure as hell isn't their fault.

    This is exactly right.

Though I just found out I can buy points cards cheaper than I can buy the points online, so I'm actually going to start using them for a different reason.

  9. technically speaking, couldn't they just change the password on their passport account to essentially void the xbox live account from those thieves?

  10. Of course. The guy who got robbed was just stupid. That should be the moral of the story: don't be stupid.
