Word has it that Gale Ann Hurd, producer of the Terminator series and ex-wife of Titanic director James Cameron, has secured the sequel rights to the film, and that she has pegged another Cameron ex, Kathryn Bigelow (K-19: The Widowmaker) to direct.

In the depths of his grief, he meets and falls for an upper-class English traveler (a role possibly tailor-made for Charlize Theron), but when their ship is torpedoed by a German submarine...
Fan reaction's been swift and largely critical. "I'm appalled," says fan Evan Kennedy. "A Titanic sequel is just a flabbergasting idea. I hope that fans vent on the blogs and message boards."
