How much better than the other DS Castlevanias?

The difficulty curve alone isn't perfect, but it's so much better than every other DS Castlevania.

And the whole game is significantly better than the others as a result.

Just started playing this today, and I'm really into it. I love the gameplay changes, the changes to the level progression, the ramped-up difficulty, and the improved artwork and character design. Really impressed so far...I just got up to the prison boss, and was shocked that he actually whipped my ass in, like, three hits. I'm actually going to have to learn a boss pattern in a Metroidvania game? omg!

Anyway, great game. I hope it continues to be so as as I progress further into it.

Ecclasia is by far the best of the portable Castlevania games, not counting the unlockable version of Castlevania X on PSP.

Yup, game is awesome throughout. I was pissed at how gimp Shanoa was in the XBLA game.

Shanoa is actually like the 3rd strongest character now behind the DLC Belmont and SOMA. Her two new glyphs and two new weapon scrolls are really really good.

I just meant that she gets so few spells and weapons compared to someone like Soma when she had just as much shit as he did in her game.

Its a damn great game. The guide was written by a friend of mine in Austin who had a very good knack for picking games like this apart when he was younger. I was surprised to see his name on the book.

I would really love to see a re-release of the GBA and DS Castlevania games either on XBLA/PSN or as some kind of compilation disc. I no longer had a DS by the time Ecclesia came out but it looks like a game I'd really enjoy.
