I'm about to plan my summer vacation up there, but only if Sapphire will tent with me.
I lol'ed at the "Goddamn, you can have some fun in those woods." Never a doubt in my mind that you really could . Thanks for the invitation. I would have loved to go up into the Adirondacks (especially since you already have experience) but I don't think I'll be coming back East for the summer. The plan, if it goes accordingly, is that at the end of May: Friggin' jury duty - which I normally like, but it cuts into June: Temp for the whole month to save up for July: Getting all crispy on an archaeological dig in Tel Aviv, Israel with my friend Rachael.

We call that Crabbin' round Virginia.

I've never really been one for the outdoors--I've never been camping and have no real desire to do so. I grew up going to the beach a lot, and as a consequence.. I don't really enjoy going to the beach anymore. I do enjoy playing on the water though--my father has a sail boat, my uncle a large fishing boat, and my grandfather used to have a bitchin' diesel deadrise called Thunder. I guess I just prefer leisurely outdoor activities.

My brother and I had a talk the last time our parents took us out on the beach in the 4x4 and figured that taking your huge truck out on the beach to fish, swim, and just the beachgoing thing in general is a very conservative sort of Republican activity. While going out camping/hiking/biking is more of a NPR/democrat sort of thing. Unless the purpose of that hike/camp is to kill things. Then it goes back to red. It's a theory full of holes, just thought it was interesting.

As for summertime thigns I like to do now. Adapted Lazy-Man Wiffleball. Where instead of running the bases you just sort of go by where the ball landed and how it was fielded. Works well for back yards and culdesacs.

My favorite thing to do on the beach isn't even swimming or bodysurfing or any of that, it's just sleeping on the sand. So relaxing.

There are no rules, only consequences.

  4. I would rather be in a hammock or swing sleeping. All in the shade, being lulled to sleep by the warm breeze--reading a pile of Uncanny X-men, Simpsons, and Scrooge comics.

    Yeah dude.

  5. Snowboarding is really the closest thing I ever got really big into that is pretty outdoorsy, and my year living out in the Rockies was one of the greatest of my life.
I used to snowboard, but I kept hurting myself all the time. I've thought about getting back into it because most of my friends do it, but I'm sure I still suck.

I did camp once up on the same mountain that Sunlight is on, and wow...the stars when you are up in the mountains are fucking awesome. You can see shooting stars like every five minutes too.
True! I was sleeping out on a cot during one of my camping trips and I saw a ton of shooting stars. It was really freakin cold though, I woke up to some frozen drool on my pillow.

    pussy
    Also true.

Just stop sucking, it's a lot of fun.

Also UTAH if you want the best mountains to ski/board on in the US, or so I've found. I've been to a lot of different places, but that's in my top 3.

  8. im going camping in a couple weeks with my bff. hooray! we're going from san luis obispo to big sur to sta cruz to some other place i forget the name of all in 3 days. more like a road trip i guess but so excited! my friend is a photojournalist so ill have plenty of pics for yall so you can see all the wonders of norcal
    Wear more flannel.

  9. God, all this snowboarding talk is making me miss it so fucking bad. It's too bad that mid-atlantic snowboarding sucks so bad. East coast is all about pipe and park, which I love, but man...once you've done big mountain freeriding in two feet of powder through tight tree runs...pipe and park just seems so non-epic. I like epic shit.

  10. I do not miss snowboarding. I dislocated my elbow.
