We call that Crabbin' round Virginia.
I've never really been one for the outdoors--I've never been camping and have no real desire to do so. I grew up going to the beach a lot, and as a consequence.. I don't really enjoy going to the beach anymore. I do enjoy playing on the water though--my father has a sail boat, my uncle a large fishing boat, and my grandfather used to have a bitchin' diesel deadrise called Thunder. I guess I just prefer leisurely outdoor activities.
My brother and I had a talk the last time our parents took us out on the beach in the 4x4 and figured that taking your huge truck out on the beach to fish, swim, and just the beachgoing thing in general is a very conservative sort of Republican activity. While going out camping/hiking/biking is more of a NPR/democrat sort of thing. Unless the purpose of that hike/camp is to kill things. Then it goes back to red. It's a theory full of holes, just thought it was interesting.
As for summertime thigns I like to do now. Adapted Lazy-Man Wiffleball. Where instead of running the bases you just sort of go by where the ball landed and how it was fielded. Works well for back yards and culdesacs.

. Thanks for the invitation. I would have loved to go up into the Adirondacks (especially since you already have experience) but I don't think I'll be coming back East for the summer. The plan, if it goes accordingly, is that at the end of May: Friggin' jury duty - which I normally like, but it cuts into June: Temp for the whole month to save up for July: Getting all crispy on an archaeological dig in Tel Aviv, Israel with my friend Rachael.
