Gamers who win with consistency are kinda pathetic. Period.
I respect or look-up to gamers who can beat me at whatever.
I respect the gamer unless he acts like a d-bag when he wins.
I respect the gamer unless his/her personality is off or demonstrates obsession.
I play for escapism. I don't care who wins, loses, or competes.

I respect anyone being better at any game than I am so long as they have composure.
If you beat my ass in Halo and act like a douche, I'll have more respect for the kids I run through the mud but thank me for a good round.
I love it when people beat me at games I'm good at, but don't act like a douche about it. It gives me a higher plane to strive for.
But I hate playing Halo with Opaque, fuck that guy.

Pretty one-sided poll here. Obviously I agree with Opaque.
Back at the dorms, I LOVED losing at networked Halo games. It gave me a bigger target to go after on the next round. There was shit talking, of course, but it was in all directions, and everybody pushed one another to be better at the game. Didn't own an Xbox at the time, but there were a ton of consoles and controllers everywhere.
On the other hand, when you've got the "one guy" who owns the Wii and brings it to get-togethers in order to dominate a bunch of folks who've never played the game, that is very different.

#3... don't mind losing but if the guy is gonna go on a gloating spree it kills any respect I may have had for him.
I thought I was the king of Guitar Hero until my girlfriends cousin showed up and whooped my ass!!! but afterwards he was chill and humble about the whole thing, it was a touching moment.
I can't say I've ever felt respect for anyone playing video games no matter how good they are. It's not that I view them as pathetic, I just view being good at video games as a rather worthless skill. That said I hate playing with people who have an ego about it.
If someone is a douchebag, win or lose, I don't respect them. Whether it's at videogames, or anything else. Though lately I have gotten in the habit of muting everyone on the other team in every game I play, so I don't even give them a chance to be a douchebag.
Why haven't they developed that feature for activities outside of videogames...like life?
