I'm proud to tell people about my freelance journalism. Sure, I have another 9-5 but on my free time I write medical articles and town news.
I wouldn't feel the same if I had to write about video games.

I just don't feel they are as important as what I want to cover as a journalist. I like to inform people of the fuck ups politicians do, any crimes happening in the neighborhood and how their tax money is being spent.
I can't say the same for games. Sure, it may be fun but I'd feel like it's the biggest waste of my time ever if it were my main focus.
Being a game journalist is like being an entertainer of sorts. Except it does, at its best, actually help to document an important art form, too. But even if you strip that away, there's nothing wrong with being an entertainer.
