...is pretty hit or miss
Right most truckers should have a greater concept of stopping distance.
That is exactly why it should be a severe crime for truckers who flagrantly exceed the speed limit. And any trucker with an 80,000 lb load who is travelling in heavy traffic exceeding the speed limit and unable to slow down for vehicles merging onto the freeway from an established merge lane would certainly be considered out of control.
No, that is where "Don't pull out in front of speeding 16 wheelers" comes into play. Having he right of way is no excuse for poor judgement. If you still blame the trucker, well, "I had the right of way!" will make a great epitaph.
Though exceeding the speed limit and not paying attention or heeding the developing circumstances ahead on the road is more the truck drivers fault than someone who misjudged a 85 mph tractor-trailer among the 65-70 mph traffic.
You know what, fuck truckers. Those motherfuckers shouldn't be allowed on the road betwen 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm.
They can suck it, all they do is slow down traffic and cause accidents.
Yeah, those damn truckers. What are they good for anyway? We should just launch all of our goods across the country via rockets. Show 'em who's boss.
Imagine that a trucker gives themselves a reasonable stopping distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them. What happens? Other people fill the gaps. And if this situation happens to be above the speed limit, the truck driver should slow down to the speed limit, creating a rolling roadblock?
Also, no one already on the highway has to slow down for those merging onto it. The people who merge have the yield sign. The purpose of the acceleration ramp just before the merge is to match the speed to traffic. When people already on the highway slow down, it just backs traffic up even more.
