Thread: Top Spin 3

  1. It's not a better comparison than what I posted. Both have jackasses ruining your gaming experience. Making a Forza car the way you described could only be analogous to controlling a cheetah on rocket skates on the courts.

  2. It's as simple as this:

    1) Both games let you build your player/car however you like, so you can craft your own set of strengths and weaknesses.

    2) Forza has a nice system of checks and balances that will penalize your performance on the track significantly if you leave certain stats completely bare.

    3) Top Spin will not penalize your on-court performance at all for leaving certain stats completely bare.

  3. That's pretty gosh darn silly that you don't get tired hitting winners from 12 feet behind the baseline all day.

  4. He whooped my ass.

But you were a fast negro.

  5. Sim guideline, version 1.0

    Fact:

    1) leaving any of your stats at 30 is not sim.

    2) boosting any stat to 100 is not sim

Why? Look at the highest/lowest/average stats given to the real (male) pros and legends in this game (these numbers do not include the fake players):

Return: high of 91, low of 53, average of 67

Volley: high of 93, low of 53, average of 68
Power: high of 92, low of 62, average of 79
Speed: high of 92, low of 58, average of 71
Stamina: high of 72, low of 61, average of 67
Based on this data, we can create reasonable limits for how high/low each of these categories should go, if a true, simulation tennis experience is desired:

    Power: 60-92
    Speed: 55-92
    Stamina: 60-72
Following these guidelines allows you to create players who more accurately resemble real pros, in that they tend to have no more than two abilities in the 90s and no more than two abilities in the 50s. Here is how the game's 12 male pros play out:

0 ratings in the 50s - Federer, Nalbandian
1 rating in the 50s - the eight players not listed above/below
2 ratings in the 50s - Philippoussis, Berdych
    So to summarize:

    1) Realistic CAPs must follow the attribute guidelines for possible high/low ratings

    2) Realistic CAPs must have no more than 2 ratings in the 50s and no more than 2 ratings in the 90s.
Time to remake my all-around, speed player for compliance.

You're such a snob about everything. holy shit D:

  7. Is not! W33man is like the David Sirlin of sports games. In a good way.

I've enjoyed reading this thread even though I don't like this game at all.

  8. Yeah, Weeman is obviously pretty knowledgeable as far as sports games but these threads are all really predictable. Hype up a sports game, go on and on about how good it is, run into some asshole online that "cheeses," and suddenly the game sucks.

  9. Really, this is the ultimate Jeckyll and Hyde game, depending on:

-- the stats of the person you're playing against

-- whether or not they are abusing the outside serve

When neither of those things are affecting the game, it is an amazing experience.

When just one of those things are involved, the game becomes incredibly frustrating.

When both exploits are used, the game is pretty much unplayable.

  10. I beat the career mode, so I guess I am done with this one considering that the online community pretty much ruins the whole multiplayer aspect of the game.

I might pick it up again if some of the online exploits get patched, but I doubt that's going to happen given 2K's poor track record of post-release support for their games.
