System-wise, How Is Your Game Playing Time Divided?

How is your game playing time divided system-wise this year compared to 10, 20, or 30 years ago?

I know it's impossible to remember exactly so just estimate percentages or describe instead. I think we have had similar threads for individual years but not for decade intervals so I thought it might be interesting.

    For me, I'm guessing:

    2008 so far

40% PC (at least half of this is emulation, though)
    15% 360
    15% PSP
    15% Wii
    10% DS
    5% Various other

My time has been divided among a ton of systems. I don't plan on buying a new PC or a PS3 soon so I imagine most of the big games for the later part of this year will be on 360 for me.

    1998

    30% PS
    25% SS
    20% N64
    25% Various other

I think the Playstation got the most play time simply because there was so much quantity to buy and rent. The Saturn had some amazing titles in its final year of life in North America like Panzer Dragoon Saga. The N64 sucked for quantity but Ocarina and other great games still took up a good deal of my time. The PC blew me away playing it at friend's houses but there was no way my five year old 486 computer could run stuff like Half-Life. I got a new PC (and the internet) in '99.

    1988

    30% SMS
    25% NES
    20% C64
    15% Arcade
    10% Various other

This was a great time as a gamer for me. Becoming a teenager meant easy money babysitting my cousins, and so more money for games and gaming mags. Both Nintendo and Sega were doing astounding things like SMB2 and Phantasy Star. 1988 was probably the last year where I played the SMS a bit more than the NES as the system lost some steam afterwards while development shifted to Genesis and the NES kept getting more stuff. I was still copying new and old C64 games; there were still impressive games coming out of Europe.

    1978

    0% anything

It was another year or two before I played any video games as far as I know.

  2. 2008
    40% PC
    20% DS
    30% PS2
    10% 360 (I feel bad for this)

    1998:
    20% SNES
    50% PS1
    20% Genesis
    10% Gameboy Color

    1988:
1% NES (99% drooling and crapping)

    80% Xbox 360
    10% Xbox
    10% PS2

The 360 has been getting awesome games the last couple of years, so it's hard for me play any other system. The only reason the Xbox and PS2 got any play time at all was because of cheap pickups from Gamestop and replaying the Metal Gear Solid series so I can get started on Metal Gear Solid 4.

    1998
    50% PSOne
    35% Saturn
    10% Various other
    5% N64

The PSOne had the most plentiful and well-rounded library that it was just hard not to play it over the other systems. The Saturn had its fair share of good stuff, but just not enough of it. I only played the N64 for Ocarina of Time and Doom 64. The other 10% was 3DO, 32X, etc. shenanigans.

    1988
    80% NES
    10% Master System
    10% Various other

The NES was what I had at the time, so that was all I played. I did get the Master System as a gift from my uncle a little later in the year, so that got a bit of playing time. Local pizza parlor arcades also took up a bit of my time.

Nintendo has been quite on the decline.

What did you play on it?

    2008
    80% 360 (30-40% of that is gears)
10% ps3 (and most of that is ps2/ps1 stuff)
    5% ps2 (DDR)
    5% other (psp I guess)

    1998
70-80% ps1 (not surprising as it was the only system really alive in 1998)
20% N64 (Golden eye and mario kart exsclusivley at this point)

  7. 2008 so far
Xbox 360: 60% - Halo 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, Virtua Fighter 5, and a bunch of LIVE titles for starters. It's my primary system of choice.

PC: 25% - This surprised me because I'm not a PC gamer, but that changed because of Team Fortress 2, Diablo 2: LoD, and online emulation via 2DF and GGPO (how could you say no to online Third Strike, Super Turbo, AND Twinkle Star Sprites)

DS: 10% - Picross DS and Space Invaders Extreme. I used to play more on the bus ride home, but that's been replaced with naps

PSP: 5% - Echochrome and whatever is emulated well on my hacked PSP

    1998
    >80%: Playstation - I was probably playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 a lot during this time. I don't remember the other games that came out during this year, but most of my time was spent with Playstation since I didn't own a N64 or Saturn.
<20%: Game Boy Color - I don't recall how much I used my Game Boy Color before Super Mario Bros. Deluxe came out in 1999, but it was nowhere near the time I spent on my PSX.

    1988
    100%: Nintendo - Nuff said.
    R.I.P. Paragon Studios
