It's all about the trackstands, duh.

  2. and riding backwards through heavy traffic

Whenever i see someone with a freewheel/GEARSbike pulling off a trackstand i am impressed. I can't do that on a freewheel bike.
    YAH IT'S TIME. http://www.etsy.com/shop/Finchie THAT's WHAT TIME.

    Hated them since 2003.
It took this long for the fad to completely consume itself.

  4. I got a new saddle for my FIXED GEAR MOUNTAIN BIKE THAT FUNCTIONS AS A BABY TOURING BIKE.

It's like riding on a rock right now. It will take a few weeks to break in...

This nonsense is only true if it's how you like to ride. I can understand the argument that it makes the rider feel as if they have more control, but I don't see how this holds up if you live anywhere with hills.

Here we go with this ignorant shit again. Fixed gear setups are not a mere fad. Do my job for one day in inclement weather and you'll understand this.
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

You ride down the biggest hill possible with a really high gear (at least 100 gear-inches) and make sure the rear of your bike is weighted down, make sure you ride brakeless of course, and you're not a real man if you're using foot retention. As that page mentioned, those straps on fixed gear bikes are completely for show and have no real purpose whatsoever. Get the biggest fattest rat traps you can find and just bomb it, draft off a van if you can. If there's a sharp curve at the bottom, you'll have more control, if there's a busy intersection, even MORE control.

    Here's a question: Why?

Because posting a Maddox page that starts off with "LOL NO BRAKES" sure as hell isn't convincing anyone.
We get it. Hipsters suck. Doesn't mean the bikes automatically do too.

  9. Damn y'all got some bangin' bikes. I just got a new saddle and dirt tires for my Giant mountain bike, been rocking street slicks but now I got all kinds of trails around me. Will need to also get in better shape, bike's been too neglected since I got a car (...like nine years ago).

P.S. I think fixies look goddamn awesome but don't think I could ride one. Love how clean they look without all the damn cables and levers, just wheels, handle bars and pedals. I didn't really get why anyone would want one aside from aesthetics but a buddy explained it by comparing riding fixie to driving a manual shift car. And I got it. (I'd still like to shift down for hills and not have to pedal like crazy downhill.)

  10. They're really fun to ride on flats. Uphill isn't that bad, and going down small hills isn't bad at all, but BIG hills can be bad, especially ones where you have to slow down not to die. It's not even the spinning, as long as it's not for too long it's not so bad, it's the stopping. (yeah, i have a front brake, i just don't like to use it)
