Do you have a ton of apps installed and running in the task bar?
Lately, whenever I turn my laptop on my desktop task bar has been taking a long time to start up. The wallpaper would start up fine, but the task bar won't show up until several minutes later. Anyone have any idea why it's like that?

Do you have Google Desktop installed?
Try shutting it off in MSConfig and see for yourself. It just might.
Could be an explorer.exe problem, CTRL-ALT-DEL and end the explorer.exe process than CTRL-ALT-DEL and start exlporer.exe by New task (run) and type in explorer.exe.
Could be network connectivity issues. I've seen systems hang at start because of this.
Could also be Java related. Older versions were highly succeptable to maleware attacks. Remove any traces of old versions and run a full system scan with your cleaner of choice (Hijack This, Spybot) then reinstall the newest version from here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
I think it was Java Update 6 conflicting with Java Update 7 or something. I got rid of Java Update 6 and now it's starting up fine again. Thanks guys.
Good to hear.
