Thread: Let's Cooking: TNL!

  1. Seriously. I used to cook over my ex's house and he had the cheapest thinnest pots and pans ever. I was always burning shit and it's impossible to clean.

  2. There's nothing worse than going to a friends house and realizing their kitchen consists of a set of dull Ikea knives, one medium frying pan, and a single saucepan.

First thing I did when my girlfriend & I moved in together was find an awesome deal on a full stainless steel Pinzon cookware set and a set of excellent Knives.

I use thigh meat all the time, because it's almost always on sale here, and I love making adobo. It's nice having a recipe without complicated ingredients that still tastes really snazzy. The first batch was awful, but what's because I used Chinese soy sauce instead of the Filipino variety.

You can pretty much make adobo with any leftover chicken or pork parts, though.

Do you only cook at work?

I scored 1200 dollars worth of Paderno pots and cookware for 217 dollars at a kitchen wholesale store in the next town over. Pots are like buying a matress -- get something half decent and it will pay out dividends for you in the end.

  5. My girlfriend bought our family a really nice knife set for christmas, I had no idea how much of an improvement it was.

Rebecca and I are thinking of getting this. Do any of you have any experience with anything like this? Being able to have greens, and basil and cilantro growing in the kitchen year round is going to be sweet. I know not to buy their overpriced seedpack things btw...

I could kill at least two children with one blow from this stock pan. Its bigger around than I am.

It depends on how much effort you want to put in. Close to zero? Then after the initial purchase price you will be satisfied. It's pretty easy and low-maintenance from what I've heard. Have decent light in one of your windows? Regular potted plants are pretty easy. Just water them whenever the soil is dry and they are pretty low maintenance.

I've had a small pot of chives going for about six months now that's still trucking, even though I completely forgot about it for a month. It's a bit thinner now, but still alive.

My window doesn't get enough light to keep a basil plant going. Someone at my farmer's market has plants with the roots attached that will stay looking fresh for a few weeks if I keep them in a jar of water. It's cheaper than what's available at the grocery store, and yields a few times more at way higher quality.

  8. I've thought about getting one of those aerogarden things myself. It gets too cold here in the winter to keep herbs going.
    Boo, Hiss.

  9. I only grow herbs in the summer up here. Try it out. I want to know how it works.

Gonna order one later this week. My apartment doesn't get any sun. I have a backyard where I will grow things when it gets warm. But I want indoor shit. I have absurd counter space in here.

Pardon the bad phone photos, but its dim in here. Hence the mini sun in the corner that I turn on when I'm doing prep or cooking in the wok.
