Thread: Getting back into shape...

  1. Getting back into shape...

Since the arcade scene for fighting games is essentially dead in my neck of the woods and most of my friends have moved, how does someone get back into shape for fighting games. Back when I played alot and I entered tourneys I would place, but for some reason I stopped playing after I placed 2nd in a VF4 tourney and haven't touch a fighting game since. When VF5 came out I tried to get back into it, but the controller for the 360 frustrated me that I stopped again, but know I wanna get back into them. Not just VF, but Tekken, SF you name it and I want back in. How can I get back into shape playing fighting games. I feel that hope may be lost. The other part of my thinks I should just log on the online ones and just get my ass kicked, until MS gets a decent joystick or something... So what do you think is the best method to get back into shape?

  2. I call Justin Wong.

  3. I say go online and play. There's several options for doing that whether it be 2DF/GGPO on a PC, or logging into a game on Xbox Live. Get a stick first though, have you tried the Hori EX2 and it's variants? You might want to check those out if you haven't yet. If you're willing to shell out the money, you can always get a custom one made at Arcade-In-A-Box or the SRK Forums. Hori made a Real Arcade Pro for the 360 recently (Japan only), but that seems hard to find now. There's a Madcatz SF4 stick coming too.

If you want to try and find local competition. You can check the forums at SRK or VFDC (since you seem to be in to VF and the people there are usually a lot nicer than SRK people). They have regional boards so you can potentially find some new players or at least see if there's any tournaments/ranking battles you can go to in the area for some casual matches.

  4. The Horii 360 stick is fine. Playing fighting games online is generally not.

Just go to shoryuken.com's matchmaking threads and start getting together with players in your area for the 2D shit. For VF, move to Japan.

  5. vf5 kinda sucks, so if you wanna get into that series again I say wait for the inevitable home port of vf5:R
