Thread: Podcasts

  1. Podcasts

I've recently began working somewhere that allows me to listen to my iPod all day. That's great and all but after a while I get tired of listening to music and want to listen to some talk radio.

Right now I listen to Howard Stern and Opie and Anthony but their shit can get tiring after two days straight. I'm wondering what TNLers listen to when they want world news, sports, political coverage, etc.

So, please share your fave podcasts and links to download!

(Mine are not gotten through kosher means so I will not be sharing.)

npr has a lot of good podcasts, like wait wait don't tell me, and car talk, and the news/music shows.

Podcasts are free so I don't understand how they're not "kosher". Books on cd are fun to listen to too.

  3. Well, mine aren't really podcasts. They're torrents of said shows.

seriously just browse the itunes store for podcasts, there's a shit ton of sports casts and shit. Other than that go to your favorite websites about music or sports and they probably have a link to podcasts on it. ESPN does, I know that. I listen to a bunch of hockey ones.

  5. If you didn't plan to link to some, why bother posting in the first place? Hrm?

  8. http://skeptoid.com/ - Critical Analysis podcast, tears down psuedoscience garbage

http://www.thislife.org/ - This American Life, good stuff.

http://www.themoth.org/podcast The Moth, great storytelling from a variety of different walks of life. There's some awesome shit here.

http://www.kcrw.com/news/programs/lr - KCRW's Left Right and Center, political debate sans screaming and yelling

http://gfwradio.1up.com/ GFW Radio, the most entertaining videogame podcast, mostly because of epic stories about griefing poor motherfuckers in MMO's

http://www.ted.com/ TEDTalks - Awesome stuff, keynote speeches from the annual TED (Technology Entertainment Design) conference. Thoughtful. Best-and-brightest talk about changing the world. (their site makes it a pain in the ass to find the audio-only podcast, it's pretty easy to search for on iTunes, though)

As far as videogame crap, I also listen to 1UP Yours and Retronauts, but the latter is terrible and the former I tend to get half-way through and wander off.

I tend to listen to a lot of science-discussion-oriented stuff, but the titles of 'em are kind of sameish and I don't quite remember what they're called. I'll pass 'em along when I see 'em next.

I agree with this, I really wish retronauts was better, because there are times when it is really good, but other times it can be boring. I tend to find most video game related podcasts to be boring though.

My recommendation is www.filmjunk.com for movie reviews. You can go to www.filmspotting.net for more serious movie reviews.
