An awesome author with a great sense of humor and who also made the english language his bitch. I have only read Infinite Jest though I should read some of his other works. I am sad though, he seemed like a really cool, down-to-earth guy.

  3. Shit, a friend was telling me about this yesterday. I think I'd enjoy his work.

I've never read Infinite Jest. Whenever something gets described as "picaresque" I assume that means 18th century humour or something and avoid it. Is it worth reading?

I actually haven't read it. Which makes me sound like a huge fucking, self-righteous hypocrite. What I meant was, I figured he was commonly read by people, especially at TNL. My buddy is a big fan of this Infinite Jest (he was crushed when I told him) and has begged me to read it for the past five years.

And now, I probably will. I seem to do this with a lot of authors. Vonnegut, Thompson...

  6. It's good but you really have to pay attention. You also need two bookmarks for all the footnotes. I just bought Consider the Lobster in his honor since I haven't had the pleasure of reading his non-fiction work.
