The cutscenes look great. The gameplay... I can't tell if I care, but I hope it's not too traditional. Give me a demo.
They look more liked some odd Pokemon meets Tales to me. Issue commands to allies and move a little beastie around directly, but also freeze things and choose some attacks manually.
It's definitely nothing like the DS's system which seemed to have some kind of Suikodenesque grid placement thing.

I hope this is Dragon Quest X for people who don't want to play the bastard child that bears the name Dragon Quest X.

That's what I was thinking. Strong DQVIII vibes all around.
I loved the idea of the book tie-in with the DS game, though. The book itself looked so damn neat. I'm quite sad that's not making it here, but I guess not surprised. Apparently localization would have been a significant challenge:

So the book (among other things) will be coming to America in the collector's edition on January 22: https://twitter.com/jimreilly/status...41904584986624
Is this actually good?
edit: It's $99 and you have to order it from this site: http://store.namcobandaigames.com/st...Exclusive.html

Me too, as a general rule. But the book...
I'm going to pony up for this one.
I never thought I'd be buying a Japanese console game in 2012 for the graphics, but it's just so damn gorgeous.
