No, it's not what you were thinking. Elevator Action: Death Parade is guess what- a Taito Type X2 powered gun game, planned for Summer 2009. A metallic door will open and close in front of the game's LCD screen to simulate an elevator. You hit a button to open and shut the elevator doors.

Hopefully there will be some sort of gun swing move to bash enemies who get too close, since melee attacks are a big part of EA2.

It sounded like a strange idea for a moment, but I can see this turning out decent.

Sounds a lot like the godawful Spy Games: Elevator Mission on Wii. Where the fuck is a REAL 2D Elevator Action game? Of course, it'll be hard to top the greatness of EA2.

The door gimmick wouldn't necessarily reduce the chance of a home port- this is just some added feature, like recoil in the arcade guns. Doors could just be drawn on screen in that case. Hopefully the 360 gets a gun controller soon. The only recent gun game to get ported is Time Crisis 4. Razing Storm is practically guaranteed for sometime later in 2009, but what about all these others: Lethal Enforcers 3, HotD4, 2 Spicy (not my favorite, but any gun game released to console is a good sign), Virtua Cop 3, Warzaid, etc.

It sure seems like Taito has gotten a bit jealous of Time Crisis, and wants something similar.
