I think the reality is that mainline conservatism is shrinking and being replaced by yahoos. McCain was your last chance.
It's amazing how out of touch a lot of people here are with reality. McCain got almost 46% of the vote.
Had the financial crisis happened a year later, McCain probably would have won, despite the "it's cool to vote for Obama" idiots whom I hope never think it's cool to vote again. We need to schedule an Occupy <insert something stupid here> rally for election day.

Which is why Romney got more of the popular vote than McCain.
I don't think that matters. The fear of potentially going from an incompetent liberal to a very competent but arguably evil one will likely motivate the base like nothing we've seen in our voting lifetimes.
The Republican party is dead. It died as it switched from fiscal to moral conservatives.
Every generation has adults that want to save money. But morals shift with each generation. They started the countdown when they put the saddle on that old horse.
Case in point, mccain's kids openly like gay people. One or two generations from now, no one with power is going to give a flip about gay people and oppressing them. It's going to be a fringe religious issue like pentacostal women and skirts
Speaking of this, can anyone pinpoint when the shoe dropped on fiscal conservatives?
Like growing up, it was democrats out to stop evil games and music. Then one day it was republicans. I'm thinking it might have been the desired impeachment of bill Clinton. Suddenly a lot of moral conservatives hated him for cheating and lying and the Republican party used those feelings to gain as much power as possible.
Are you claiming Sanders is incompetent while claiming Trump is "very" competent?
LMAO, no wonder you were cool with Palin.
Also Trump was a contributor to democrats and down with the Clintons not too long ago, if it came out Bernie was peeps with the Bush's back in the day democrats wouldn't stand for that level of flip-flopping. So many republicans are backing Trump because he's the only one who seems confident when arguing his new found republican beliefs. If you don't think he just saw a wide open opportunity to become president by shifting his views a bit you're not as smart as I thought.
Trump and Hillary are two sides of the same coin.
