Memphis for the most part is a shit hole. I don't know what that city did, but it has gotten progressively worse since my youth. It is probably the most crime infested city in Tennessee.

If you want to see the Memphis of old, skip it and go to Nashville. Nashville is like NeoMemphis.

I'm going with a buddy of mine, road tripping so I won't be alone. We're both from shitty neighborhoods and know how to not be retarded, so I'm not too worried about that. I'm sure no place in Memphis is as dangerous as going to his house in west philly.

You'd be suprised. I've never been to Memphis, but I've been all over Philly and some of the bad parts don't even match up to certain places in Wilmington or Chester. I've heard some very bad stories about places like Norfolk and Atlanta. Rampant crime in broad daylight is not a characteristic I've really seen in Philly but I hear it's bad in other places.

His neighborhood is pretty exceptional in that regard. Dudes selling dope in front of a church on a Sunday morning, no bullshit. It's worse than Camden.

A "meth bar" and a strip club isn't an indication of crime...Unless, naked women and the type of crowd that most dive/local bars attract are insanely violent in your neck of the woods.

Also, to actually add something worth while. Check out Graceland. other than the BBQ there, it's the only thing worth checking out.

Eat at the Rendezvous. College buddies and I made a failed road trip to D.C. and ended up in Memphis for a few days, asked around for good places to eat and were pointed to this joint. The ribs were amazing. Amazing.
