Thread: Official Apple Games Thread

  1. This looks like virtual controller stuff so I'll probably avoid it but I like this trailer:

    Out now.

I can't remember which thread he said it in, but FirstBlood's wishes for an Apple controller may be coming true.
Countdown to the de facto end of the console generation: 5 exclusives
Most recent: Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (4/30)
Next up: The Last of Us (6/11)
Later: Puppeteer (9/10), Beyond: Two Souls (10/18), Rain (TBA), Until Dawn (TBA)

  3. I bought the new iPad last week. I decided to try a couple of games that were basically unplayable on the iPad 1, like Wasted Land.

Wasted Land has some resolution issues on the new iPad, but I'm getting used to the interface. The icons are very unclear. I do appreciate the touch screen integration, and I wish that Square Enix did the same with FFT.

It's challenging. The first real non-training mission throws a ton of German soldiers at you.

I also downloaded Hunters 2. Still formulating impressions on this one, but it's better than the original (which was good to begin with).

Square didn't integrate the touch screen or put Game Center support in FFT?

No clue about Game Center support. But it's my understanding that you cannot simply touch characters on the screen and point to a destination without cycling through the same endless confirmation menus that were present in the PSone and PSP releases.

Game Center is a definite no, which is why I never bought it. I can't believe they were so lazy as to not change the menus either though. Wow.

Yeah. Compare this to Hunters and Hunters 2. Tap to select unit, hold and drag with your finger to change direction, tap icon to overwatch units. Very easy.

Wasted Land is a little kludgier, but it works the way I would expect a non-half-assed FFT port to work.

Nah, there's no real issue in FFT. You tap the screen to choose to move, select the glowing square, and the character moves there. There are confirm messages for attacking but you can very quickly tap through them. The only issue is target selecting if there's a ledge above an enemy. The game has a problem figuring out if you mean the ledge or the ground and freaks out a bit.

The problem with the FFT port is it uses the PSP translation which is Shakespeare for retarded people.

The original Witcher is now available on Mac, exclusively on Steam for $9.99. Or you get it for free if you have the Steam PC version.

Yes, I am watching the CD Projekt conference stream.

edit: A Witcher interactive comic series is coming to iOS starting on April 17.
