I read that it was Wi-fi multiplayer, not online.
It uses GameCenter. I'm pretty sure it's online.

I'm going to put this here since this is fantastic. The paid version is better because some of the graphics are better due to the options that you can pay for (the free version still lets you play every table)

Yeah but this one is the most well-made, and if you like 70s/early 80s tables (my favorite era), then it's doubly sweet.
Final Fantasy Record Keeper is out in US now. It's a megamix of sorts, f2p and made by the people Nintendo just announced a partnership with.
Edit: Whatever "realm" you're in has the same music from that game, and the sprites/models from them as well. All heroes look like they're from the SNES (Best) FF's also.
