Good recovery software?

My external decided to have some bad files during a chdsk the other day. I had two folders. One music, and one junk. After repairing the bad files the music folder disappeared. The space is still occupied on the drive as if it's there but I can't seem to find it. I tried a recovery app called Recuva which only found 40 files. I figured it was all gone until I ran a malware app on the drive. While it scans it shows what file it's scanning at any given time. Wouldn't you know, it went through my music collection as if nothing ever happened. Yet I still can't see or access the files. Any ideas?
