Pretty much this. I'd rather have something like COD4 with a realistic but fictional conflict than rehashing WWII over and over again. It's just not fun anymore.

I played Halo 2 and 3 for way too long as a social tool (honestly not a huge fan of the games in general) and I'll probably end up going again once Recon hits, for the new multiplayer stuff. Burned out a long time ago, but fortunately I never attempt to play them alone. When with friends, eh, it's something to do in the background while you joke around and catch up.

Hated World at War, though. Didn't feel fresh at all like COD4 did to me.

  3. Rock Band > Halo as a social tool.

COD4 was HARDLY fresh ouside of its perk system. WaW is superior.

It also helped that I hadn't played crap for console FPSes other than halo by the time I got COD4, I guess. WaW didn't do it for me, I don't know. Really didn't want to buy it after I had tried it.

  6. If you are FPS'd out, you are a piece of shit

go back to playing Lego Buttfarmer

  7. That's a TERRIBLE FPS.

  8. I got burned out on FPSs around 2000, but I came back more recently. I think the genre has gotten a lot more diverse. STALKER is nothing like Bioshock is nothing like Crysis is nothing like UT3 is nothing like L4D.

There's also more interesting stuff happening on the periphery of the genre. Mirror's Edge, Fallout 3, Portal, and Dark Messiah might not completely fit the definition of the genre, but they're derivative of it and they're doing some very interesting things that will probably end up influencing the genre proper.

IRL social tool, yes, I agree. Online social tool, I couldn't disagree more.

  10. I don't think I could ever get FPS'd out. Not ever. I love shooting fuckers in the face.
