they don't teach grammar in college
Its one of my big complaints about American education. We hit grammar just in the third and forth grade and if you don't get it there, you're fucked.
I don't think they even teach it in High School

I learned everything I needed to know in the forth grade.
I remember sentence diagramming in 7th grade. I can't recall if there were any basics after that. I didn't take a single English class in college and am quite glad. Teaching grammar in high school or after is like teaching arithmetic in high school or after. You can take a short bus to that class.
I can't wait to move to Iceland.
Just waiting till our parents are dead.
I don't identify in any way as "American".
Boo, Hiss.
Sentence diagramming isn't grammar. I imagine we could take a TNL poll on how many people use it when constructing sentences. It is a lot like proofs in trig. You can do a shit ton with trig without knowing or doing proofs. Like, the first two semesters of physics.
This is unbelievably retarded. Are you on a mission to troll me this week?
Math builds on itself. I did more basic math in Algebra than I did in basic math. I did more Algebra in Calculus than I did calculus. I did more calculus in Differential Equations than Differential Equations. And so on and so forth.
Maybe the US would have better writers if we took this approach again with writing, instead of this "hope you got it when you were 10 and didn't give a shit because you wanted to play Sonic 2 because you're never going to get help with this ever again"
And don't get me started on how stupid and lazy we do teach grammar when we do. Finding nouns in a sentence is not teaching grammar. Swapping papers to proof read some other retard's paper while you proof read his, isn't either. Its the blind leading the blind. I can't write that well now because dingleberry was thinking about his new puppy dog and not about looking through my essay for errors.
Grammar and writing in the US is a perfect example of why schools need more funding and a larger staff. Students need quality time on this shit.
