  1. Romneycare was awesome when I lived in MA.

Is cost really the only thing that ever matters on Yoshi's Island? Fuck anything and everything that hits your billfold right?

I never, ever want to pay for something the federal government has no business doing in the first place.

edit: Its launch alone is such a glowing example of how everything the feds touch works out. Outsource to a Canadian company with a terrible reputation, don't leave enough time for testing, etc.

I'm still waiting to see what happens to my premiums for 2014. My company is giving us a choice of different insurance carriers, which is pretty awesome, but it remains to be seen if the competition will offset the supposed increased costs.

I can say that many people in my company are going to be fucked. All but the premium plans have really high deductibles, and most of the people who likely won't be able to afford the premium plan also can't shell out a ton of cash for a high deductible. I keep an account with some emergency cash so it doesn't bother me, but most people don't.

Right, because it'll never ever be fixed, and the first two weeks are an irrefutable example of how the exchanges will operate now and for all time, and ignore the comparable experiences that states such as Massachusetts have experienced with Romneycare, the health care coverage initiative championed by former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

    Point of personal privilege time.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I have juvenile myclonic epilepsy. It's a preexisting condition. I have paid for insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona out of my own pocket since 2004. I pay thousands of dollars a year for coverage, and epilepsy is still not covered under my plan. Every time I have a seizure and get taken to the hospital ER, I pay thousands of dollars in ER and ambulance fees. It's so bad that I tell people to not call the paramedics whenever I have a seizure (but they often do anyway).

Under the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies can no longer deny me coverage of my preexisting condition. So I'm looking forward at long last to being able to buy an affordable policy on the exchange. Yeah, I'm not happy that the fucking website is not up and running 100%. But I have my local Arizona government partially to thank for their refusal to set up their own exchange to coincide with the ACA (although not even Jan Brewer was stupid enough to reject the Medicaid expansion).

Frankly, I'm tired of people like Yoshi who are either completely disinterested, intentionally misinformed, or both about the ACA from maliciously wishing for it to fail. You have absolutely no stake in what I, my employees, and people like me stand to gain from the ACA.

So either learn the facts about the ACA or kindly fuck off.

The unbridled arrogance of "anyone who is against this must be ignorant or misinformed" is impressive. However, anyone who pays an extra penny for their coverage in 2014 due to this mess absolutely has a stake in it. If it were as simple as a removal of preexisting condition denials, it would be a lot harder to be against it, but that's a very small part of the whole mess, and that end does not begin to justify the means.

It is 100% true in this case. The people in this thread throw article after article at you and you ignore them and hew to your Fox News/Hannity talking points.

Educate yourself or kindly fuck off.

This isn't hard. When the time comes, show me a 2014 annual increase in premiums that is less than or equal to the 10% that Diff quoted as the rough current standard. That is the bar for short term success. That has absolutely nothing to do with anything Fox News and/or Hannity have ever said to my knowledge, though I can't remember when the last time I watched either for more than five minutes was, so I can't be sure.
