That's the intent, but shouldn't the larger goal be giving incentives to move the 'bottom of the food chain' up through education, training, etc.? Someone shouldn't be happy with staying on minimum wage for the rest of their lives, and you cannot honestly tell me that making minimum wage a BETTER prospect will somehow entice them to move up this 'food chain.'

Like, if I knew that min. wage increased once every 5 years at a rate HIGHER than the potential (and no clean guarantee) for a raise in a non min-wage job, would I care to take said job? Or conversely, every time the minimum wage goes up, I make less by proxy (because I don't get a raise for a min. wage jump and even if I did, that means comparatively, min wage is still lower than my pay by the same rate). So what incentive is there in trying to beat that curve, knowing that I need to do relatively less and have the back of state/federal governments to bump my pay regardless of skill or performance?

I don't think unskilled labor should be treated like garbage, but I also don't see it as a long-term solution that should be encouraged. Min wage should be short term with high turnovers - like students taking summer jobs, people getting/staying out of unemployment while looking for more permanent employment...I don't think that's the same as seeing them as 'garbage'

Exactly - which is where I diverge from a lot of other conservatives - I don't see it as an issue and is grossly overblown in light of real family matters we should be talking about.

They don't do that now, why would they do it with gay marriage?

A lot of Churches in the US thought it was unholy to marry people of different religions, cultures, or skin color. Some still feel that way. No one has forced them to stop, despite it being legal for all those people to marry now.

A lot of churches currently believe that you should not give a marriage to anyone that has previously been divorced, assuming the other spouse is still alive. No one is making them stop this.

What are you even basing this on? Fucking Mormons? What makes you think that the government is going to send cops to "make" churches marry butt buddies?

This goes against the whole conservative ethos that the economy isn't zero-sum and that some dude having a billion dollars a year doesn't make me any poorer

are you fucking serious? This is your defense?

How is this oppressing churches? How does having one drinking fountain go against any religion? How in a nation that still has THOUSANDS of 100% white churches, did this change any religion?
