Thread: The Obama Presidency

  1. ...actually, they did a bit a while back where they had obama saying this was his number one priority, and then they had footage of him at stupid PR gatherings and shit.

  2. Honestly. I don't get what the fuck Obama is supposed to do. Is he supposed to swim down there and clog the thing with his ego?

I'd rather that thing leaks for a year than the U.S. spend one taxpayer dollar to try and fix it. Then after it's done leaking, BP gets to reimburse all the folks who have had their livelihoods ruined - they make billions every quarter, they can handle it.

  3. I think people care more about the environmental impact as a reason to act. The devastation to the marine life could potentially be ecosystem shattering.

But what really can Obama do? People were outraged he didn't stop and talk to the people on his last trip down to assess the damage. Instead he was meeting with engineers and coming up with a strategy to A) Prevent coastal damage as much as possible and B) See where they were at with plugging the hole.

The kicker? He was down like 4 days prior specifically to speak to all the affected people and tour the damage to the economy. They were just butt hurt he didn't do it again for some reason.

  4. Going after the President on this is a PR stunt, unless you:

    A. want the Federal Government to seize BP's assets and use them to clean up the spill themselves. Of course, we all know what they would say were he to do this.

    B. want the Federal Government to essentially pay the full tab of the cleanup and have the taxpayer assume all responsbility. This amounts to little more than a bailout of BP, and while Republicans are in favor of this, I don't see why we should be. Not to mention, they would attack the President for doing it in public.

The one gripe Obama has earned is that his administration did not adequately reform the Interior Department after Bush got done destroying it. That's legit.

  5. Louisana's levies are still shitsville, too.

A little too late now. Throw the baby out with the bathwater.

  7. So we might get some of that BP money at the restaurant. We're a seafood place and the public is afraid of fish at the moment.
    Boo, Hiss.

You do remember that people's lives are being ruined right now? And probably thousands of animals are going to die, painfully, right?

I remember that it wasn't a natural disaster.

  10. Sure, it's not a natural disaster, but if the government's not able to help protect its citizens then why have a government?
