They are still put in by elected officials, you just have to have a long term memory when it comes to the supreme court.
Check out Mr. Businessman
He bought some wild, wild life
On the way to the stock exchange
He got some wild, wild life
They all came from the same game, where it's ok to take "campaign contributions" in exchange for a little favor later (read: handjob from intern if you're republican).

Boo, Hiss.
so, what you're saying is that I should ignore things, continue to be myself, and when I'm like 60, and using my connections and income to help Mississippi pull out of being a backward shit hole that brings down the rest of the nation, allow myself to be ruined when the system that is about to be put into place finds out I do a LOT of things that don't meet with the average backward fuck's world view?
be ruined or hide in my hole.
what great options you give us, icarusfall.
I think the nation is polarized enough without equipping the government and hackers with all the tools they need to silence any opposition. which I guess is better than just killing you. Which they already can do

Your world view is flawed. While I understand its counterpoint it also ignores the harsh realities of the "your children will be next..." cliché. Nobody may be bothering you today for anything you're doing. But if people do nothing to stop the creeping of cancerous laws against liberty there is a very real possibility you will be bothered tomorrow for the things you're not doing and are told you should.
Kids getting kicked out of streets for not having business permits to sell lemonade at their stand? Cops punching women in the face because they j-walked? Cops bursting in to people's home and seizing all of their computers because they have a video of them punching said woman in the face under a bogus "illegally wiretapping" law (essentially saying public property isn't free to use for filming). Absolute lunacy. This is nothing new - prohibition was the same thing. But the people rose up in such numbers it was hard to ignore the financial and social burden it took on society.

It's Emanuel's choice, he wasn't forced out.
