Thread: The Obama Presidency

  1. It's like congress predicted the terrorist attacks and decimated the economy preemptively!

  4. That chart basically blames the Democrat congress for Bush's kicking the can down the line until right before he was leaving office. The collapse belonged to him, not Congress.

  5. The amount of retarded executive vetoes he pulled was such horseshit. Obama has done far less of those. Although 0 would be the ideal number.

At least they have in the past, perhaps new and overwhelming tea party rhetoric in the south would make that unpopular despite the job gains in current times. So essentially you can argue that the amount is a little leery and perhaps you could debate the morality of it coming from the feds rather than the states or some bullshit but the GM tax cut is just business as usual. It's absolutely pointless for any one to give this more than a passing thought because this shit ain't gonna stop.
In fact I am all for tax breaks that help bring new businesses to your areas. That's how it should be -- but I can guarantee you your local government have prerequisite criteria (i.e. healthy regulation) for these companies to give back to the community. If new companies want these tax breaks they have to play ball - but that's an open market. Everyone can decide to play ball and take them or take their business elsewhere (or not play ball and open up shop there anyway under their own dime). These are good, healthy tax breaks. Especially if it woos bigger business to your county. But a little here and there to stoke new business is a far cry from federal meddling with a massive 45 billion dollar cut to one company over the others in that field (a company the government technically owned for a year, too).

At any rate the auto industry is so massive I hate to see it unbalanced. Although speaking with transparency I will admit I personally do a lot of design work for Ford (Canada, mostly). I don't blame GM for taking the cuts (get yours any way you can). It should just be much less and offered to Ford and Chrysler, too. I'm surprised the auto makers union isn't intervening (maybe they will -- they always do!)

Though I have no basis for this, I always found it odd the government knew about Toyota's gas pedal issues from 2002 yet nothing came out until after the money was shoveled in.

The graph was a troll, and I advertised it as such. The federal government can only hurt the economy, regardless of who controls it. The only way it can correlate with improvement is if it gets the fuck out of the way.

The government can plug all sorts of holes that exist in the economy, but I have a feeling we have been down this discussion road 40 million times.

You mean like tax incentives to keep jobs here? I don't think I have heard a single Washington drone say it. Just keep them out of the way.

What do you get to do for Ford?

After some thought I can sort of see your point(s). Economic realities make it so no one has an even footing ever. So I guess them's the breaks. Ideally the tax break would extend to Fomoco and Chrysler but NOT the foreign companes cuz y'know fuck 'em, 'Murcan pride and all. About tomoco I guess the government decided they needed to be taken down a peg or two to aid in the bail outs. Besides, it was about time some one started pointing out how Asian cars are not hand forged perfection from Jesus himself.
