    The White House recently released a draft of a troubling plan titled "National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace" (NSTIC). In previous iterations, the project was known as the "National Strategy for Secure Online Transactions" and emphasized, reasonably, the private sector's development of technologies to secure sensitive online transactions. But the recent shift to "Trusted Identities in Cyberspace" reflects a radical — and concerning — expansion of the project’s scope.

    Since they were instituted, community service block grants have helped to support community action organizations in cities and towns across the country. These are grassroots groups working in poor communities, dedicated to empowering those living there and helping them with some of life’s basic necessities. These are the kinds of programs that President Obama worked with when he was a community organizer, so this cut is not easy for him.

    People are trying to cut funding to PBS.

    Why would anyone want to do this? I thought it was pretty well understood that it was good for kids. And it was good for all of us for people to have a base knowledge, like the names of colors and letters.

    Because you can learn the names of colors and letters from private companies that don't need tax money to stay afloat? Nick Jr. is just as good as PBS for kids these days in terms of being educational. And they manage to teach multiple cultures on shows like Dora, Diego, and Kai Lan without crossing the politically correct line that Sesame Street blew through years ago.

    Now, I'd bury NPR before I went after PBS of course.
