I wouldn't worry about it. Guns will eventually be banned. Or people will figure out a better way to kill each other via methods that can't be banned and guns will go out of style.
Public opinion will continue to decrease as population density goes up. For better or worse, the scales will tip and the nation will be unanimous about how 'horrible' they are.
I wonder what people will get upset about then. Probably something like Corn syrup in soft drinks and farm subsides.
There's no good reason to ever own an assault rifle in the city, but I have no problem with Bubba Sue shooting at haybales on full-auto.
Hell, I'll be shooting an anti-tank gun at a wooden frog monster in Reno in two months.
Its neither good nor bad. It just is.
If anyone wants any real change on this issue, they have to figure out how to get the other side to care.
Otherwise, you have a couple million Yellerdogs running around.
