Thread: Official PlayStation Vita Thread

    1) There is absolutely no reason to get the 3G version. I did just in case something interesting was implemented at a certain point but it doesn't look like it ever will. To summarize, you'd need a data plan with AT&T and no games ever at all let you play multi over 3G. It's basically for apps and Near, so you decide on that one.

    2) Yes, the Vita had one of the best software launches of all time and there are a lot of great games to play on it. Some examples include Hot Shots Golf, Uncharted, Technicka Tune, Virtue's Last Reward, EDF, Persona 4 Golden, Soul Sacrifice, etc.

    3) No, the second you hold this beautiful hardware in your hands any doubts you might have felt will be burned away, replaced by a hatred for the people who are passing the system up and are instead making the ridiculously inferior 3DS more popular.

  2. I've paid very little attention to this system, because usually portables aren't for me. This thread is long, but I'm hungry for a portable system and I don't know why. Excuse my ignorance.

I assume all the psp back catalog stuff is digital distribution? This things doesn't use UMD does it?

Yes, all digital. Most are reasonably priced but some are still $30-40 because fuck you.

Not all games are available, but most. The biggest no-shows are Kingdom Hearts and Crisis Core. I also pine for Test Drive Unlimited.

Since Sony has a real account system, any PSP game you have previously purchased digitally can be downloaded and played on the Vita. I think there were some compatibility issues that may or may not have been hammered out by now but I had very few digital games and they all ran just fine (same goes for PSOne digital purchases). The screen is exactly double the resolution of the PSP which means the games scale nicely and look amazing, unlike the 3DS.

There are some games that are cross-buy, which means you buy it once and get both the PS3 and Vita versions. This includes Guacamelee, which is a fantastic game.

I actually activated the 3G for one month on AT&T mostly because of the free game deal, and yeah, not worth the cash. I don't know if it has changed, but it was $15 a month for 250 megabytes (lol) of data, really only useful for web browsing. You can't play online with it, you can't download PSN stuff with it. Web browsing on it was actually pretty good, but if you care for such things you probably already have a phone that does that.

So basically, just avoid the 3G version unless you happen to find a bundle/deal that makes it cheaper than the regular Vita like I did and just never use the 3G.

I'd recommend the 32GB card just to get it out of the way and not have to think about it. Like it's been mentioned before you can't really switch cards on the fly since info is stored separately in some game cards, on the system itself and on the memory card, yet they come together to make the front end. You have to power off completely to remove the memory card, and you will lose a lot of temp data which can be retrieved later but is still a pain in the ass.

The memory card issue is a knee-jerk reaction to the extreme piracy that plagued the PSP but is really just inconvenient and terrible. Still better than Nintendo's account system and CPP as far as giant mistakes go.

  9. Has anyone mentioned or played Gucamelee? Soon as I saw it I knew it would be the first Vita game I'd buy.

Yes to both, up to and including this thread a couple of posts above.
