Thread: Official PlayStation Vita Thread

It's looking like a repeat of the 3ds. Several launch titles, a few late ones a month or so out then nothing until the fall. However, the Vita's launch lineup is much better than the 3ds's, so I'm okay with that.

    Looking forward to Ys 4!

  2. A buddy of mine got a Vita and brought it over yesterday so I could check it out. I like a lot of aspects to it but there are a lot of little things that are odd to me too. For example, why can't I use the D-Pad or analog stick to navigate the main menu if I wanted to? Forcing to use the touch screen is a little annoying, but not a game breaker. It will be nice when Sony updates the PS3 to be able to see the trophies. I think the face buttons are a bit too small for me to be able to use comfortably so I hope a redesign happens in the future along with a price drop so I can enjoy the games.

Yeah, it's retarded. One of the remaining key advantages these dedicated gaming portables have over smartphones is their physical buttons. Sony: "I know! Let's disable them!"

I totally agree, although I'm finding that the smaller buttons aren't that big of a deal. I've played Virtua Tennis, Final Fight, and Street Fighter Alpha 3 without much trouble. Still, I would like them to be larger.

I was at my mom's house today and my nephew was playing with my Vita. His favorite game? Captain Commando.

If you've tried to hook up the Vita's USB charge cable to a regular USB port, you've noticed it doesn't work. Here is a set of instructions to modify a USB extension cable to allow for charging from any USB port. I picked up some extensions from the dollar store, but I soldered the wires instead of taping them, and it works charging from any USB port now.

  5. Sadly I have bad hands that easily cramp up and will be riddled with pain with any kind of fine manipulation so I like big analog sticks and buttons.

I remember like 3 launch titles, and Ghost Recon and SSF4 were the only decent ones.

When I first saw the Vita buttons they looked ridiculously small but I haven't had any issue with them.

I guess the best compliment I can give them is that I haven't had to think about them at all.

  7. Touch My Katamari was so almost worth buying just for this. Also, the Vita-PC Content Manager program rules because it lets you transfer your Vita screenshots to a PC (or Mac).

People that habitually bite their fingernails probably hate this system.

    Fuck them.

How is Touch My Katamari? It's getting mixed reviews, but I've always wanted a portable Katamari that didn't suck. Although really I'd be fine with a straight port of the original.

  10. It controls better than the PSP Katamari game, but isn't really as impressive since it's still scaled-down a bit from the console games, has recycled stages, is quite short, the music is the worst in the series, the comedy isn't funny, the King's messages block way too much of the screen, and the camera still sucks. The idea of touching the katamari to adjust its size is fine, but in execution, you just wind up with something that's either a giant steamroller or a big wheel, and wind up having to go back to the default size anyway to get anything done. It's a fun gimmicky thing to do when you've already met a stage's requirements, but isn't very practical. I got it for $10 with my $20 Amazon credit, and I'd say I got money's worth out of it, but wouldn't recommend paying anywhere close to full price for it.
