Also: Dolphins are among the most intelligent animals on the planet. Besides us, perhaps the most intelligent animal. The horrific treatment of a creature that is self-aware to that level is abhorrent. Sure there's lots of things out there that suck, but just because other things are lame doesn't mean this should be tolerated.

You don't have to care - but to dismiss it is intellectually dishonest.

Some of them do, but their primary sense is sound. The fishermen are sitting there banging gongs under the water. It fucks up their whole way of being.

They're not humans, but let's not pretend they aren't smarter than a dog.

I totally understand the selective outrage thing. Like I was saying that one time on FB, we can't save the world with every decision we make - sometimes it's enough to at least care and say you'd prefer it another way.

I mean, it's not like I'm gonna join up with the Whale Wars pricks, but I very much care how we treat our oceans. More so than the meat industry.

To not compartmentalize it would lead to an unhappy life of being insufferable.

This is one area of cognitive dissonance I have no problem with.
