Thread: Red Dwarf: Back to Earth

  1. I love the later seasons of Red Dwarf but I don't know if I could sit through the early stuff again. I am looking forward to this though.

    When does this get awesome? I saw the first few episodes and figured it was little more than a Hitchiker's Guide fanfic.

    It's been a while since I've watched any of it but I think it really started to pick up with season 4 or 5.

    But if you haven't read them the books are a lot better than the TV series.

    That's not a super-hot recommendation for the books, honestly.

    IIRC it was around season 3 or 4.

  7. So this is actually a three part special. The first episode was fucking HORRIBLE, but the second one was pretty damn funny. They removed the laugh track which is very nice.

  8. I really liked this show when I was younger, but when I watched it again lately two things killed it for me: 1. laugh track and 2. the jokes are REALLY forced.

    I'm mostly indifferent to the laughter, but when I watched the uncut episodes from season 7, it seemed weird without it. Turns out with the exception of season 7 the whole series was filmed in front of a live audience.

    It's not a laugh track, it's an audience. It's kind of sad to me that we've gotten so cynical from fake laugh tracks we can't watch comedy with a real audience without feeling lied to. I think this phenomenon killed Lucky Louie, too.
