And yet 2D XBLA and PSN games support 16:9 properly. Nintendo is just on a zero effort cash run.
It does if you have even the slightest concept of the fact that aspect ratio has gameplay repercussions in 2D games moreso than in 3D games.

If you really consider dead space on either side where nothing happens and the player can't move THAT MUCH better than a panel with some shit on it, I suppose they do. Even then, I notice games like R-Type Dimensions that supposedly have a "widescreen" mode only extent the view slightly and still have big black bars on the sides.
I dunno, this issue to me is comperable to demanding a tate shooter have a mode that extends the view to fill a full 4:3 screen.
Who doesn't have a tate set up? Fuck people who play on a 4:3 horizontally.
Anyway, the fact that Nintendo's $50 retail game handles 16:9 the same way a (I think) $15 XBLA download does should be embarrassing. The fact that games like Bionic Commando Rearmed do it flawlessly makes it even worse.
WarioLand Shake It is an incredible 2D platformer with gorgeous hand-drawn animation, and it's on a home console. If you really want to discount it for not being "true" 16:9 then don't complain when you can only find good 2D platformers on the DS.
Incredible my ass. The gameplay was a complete letdown, but the animation was nice. I regret buying it, even though I basically only did so to support console 2D. And I'll never find good anything on the DS.
