The best route is to pay to have it professional calibrated. If you're not going to do that, then I would recommend Digital Video Essentials. There's a standard def one, and versions for both HD-DVD and BD.
So my wife and I finally got an LCD TV today. It's a 46" Sony Bravia Z series. We need to set up the system so the colors don't look washed out and it's optimized. Is there a disk or something to buy that'll make this easier? I don't really know what to do with some of these settings (IE Gamma). Regular TV looks all weird - some of this is from the fact that we're currently just using the old coaxial cable input for the tv for now, but I'd imagine it should still display everything properly.
What wisdom have you?
Boo, Hiss.

Go to AVS forum and find the settings thread for your tv. Usually everyone that got theirs calibrated will post the results and they all end up pretty similar. It's the closest you'll get without a calibration yourself. You can use a calibration disc like DVE from there to fine tune.
THanks guys, I'll check this stuff out.

Regular TV looks weird because it is a non HD signal being displayed on a HD set. Welcome to the future.
I've been thinking about getting the 46Z4100 as well. It's a great looking television for the price.
If you have any of the Star Wars films on DVD, Lucasfilm has a THX optimizer on the discs. It's not perfect, but it's a quick fix for your sound and television setups, until you can get a complete calibration disc.

Here is the AVS thread. You'll have to search the thread for picture settings.
