That's just a generational thing.
I'm not saying UE3 doesn't have a recognizable look, because it does, but this is just a silly comment.
Bioshock uses UE3. Mirror's Edge uses UE3. Shadows of the Damned uses UE3. Lets' stop acting like UE3 has some kind of technical limitation that makes it only display hulking space marines.

Then what's your point, because the UE3 engine can be diverse. Words needed to be put in your mouth, because your words had no meaning.
Maybe he's saying the Gears of Wars characters look like refined and classy princesses.
That's not an inherent problem with UE3. It's easy to use, I think licenses come with a lot of assets...

Could be. It's also quite possible that a lot of games copied Gears' look because of Gears instead of the engine.
